Deciding Which Bags to Use:
Today I am going to be sharing with you my best carry-on packing tips. The main thing that people fail to realize when trying to pack in a carry-on size suitcase is that you allowed TWO bags. Meaning, ONE rolling carry-on size suitcase and ONE “personal item”. Your personal item can be a purse, large tote, or BACKPACK! Do you realize how much stuff can fit in a backpack? A LOT!
Now, does that mean you can’t have a purse? No, as long is its small… like a crossbody or a wristlet will be fine. Just make sure it can stuff inside you backpack or tote if absolutely necessary! If you look at the picture below, I have used the large straw tote and I have also used the backpack. While the tote is “prettier” and is easier to get into, the backpack holds SO MUCH more! So, if you are going on a longer trip, I definitely suggest the backpack.
So, What Should Go Where?
Of course, you can do whatever you want… but here is what I’ve found works best for me:
Suitcase:
- Clothes (of all kinds)
- Smaller shoes, like flip-flops
- Socks/Under garments – I usually put stuff like that in the zipper part of the suitcase
Backpack:
- Anything you might want to grab while in the airport or on the plane
- Chargers and electronics – Anything from your phone charger, to cameras, computers, gopro, selfie sticks, etc.
- Larger shoes, such as tennis shoes or heels
- Bag of liquids – You are supposed to put all of your travel size liquids (each one should be 3.4 oz or less) in on quart size (I actually us a gallon size though) zip lock bag.
- Make-up bag – for travel purposes, I’d put anything that is not liquid in here. For example, razor, toothbrush, tweezers, make-up brushes, etc.
- Assuming your backpack has different sized zippers, I usually put any medicines, etc. in one of the smaller front zippers.
- Anything that didn’t fit in your suitcase – I would put stuff that does matter if it gets wrinkled here, like pajamas or bathing suits.
Travel On!
That’s pretty much it – Thanks for reading my carry-on packing tips! If you have any other questions or ideas, let me know. Of course, the best locations might be different for you depending on the shape of your bags and what you want to take. But, I will never again check my luggage; I don’t want to pay for it and I’m always afraid it’s going to get lost.
