Easy Homemade Pizza Dough Recipe
Making homemade pizza doesn’t have to be complicated. This easy homemade pizza dough recipe uses simple ingredients and can be mixed and kneaded completely by hand—no stand mixer or electric equipment required.
Watch me make it:
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 3 ¾–4 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
1. Activate the Yeast
In a large mixing bowl, combine ½warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let sit for 5 minutes, until you see foam/bubbles.
Add the remaining olive oil, salt, and vinegar. Stir to combine.
2. Make the Dough
Add the flour 1 cup at a time, stirring with a sturdy spatula until the dough becomes too thick to stir.
Dump the dough onto a lightly floured surface and continue adding flour as needed.
3. Knead by Hand
Knead the dough by hand for about 4–6 minutes.
Continue kneading until the dough is smooth and slightly tacky but not so sticky that it clings to your fingers.
Be careful not to add too much flour… the dough should remain soft and slightly sticky.
4. Let It Rise
Lightly grease a clean bowl and place the dough inside.
Cover with a cheesecloth or greased plastic wrap and let rise for about an hour, or until the dough has roughly doubled in size.
5. Shape the Dough
Gently punch down the dough and place it on a lightly greased or floured surface.
Divide into 2 separate dough balls and place each ball on its own baking sheet covered with parchment paper.
Roll and stretch each piece to your desired size and thickness.
Brush the dough lightly with olive oil.
Baking Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F.
- Place both pizza pans in the oven and pre-bake crust for 10 minutes.
- From here you can choose to freeze the pizza crust for a later date or… add pizza sauce and your favorite toppings to enjoy now.
- If cooking later from frozen, cook in 450°F oven for 10 minutes with toppings on it.
- If cooking fresh, cook another 5 minutes with toppings on it.
