What happens when I slow down and look at the Bible one word at a time?
The Bible, Word by Word is my ongoing journey through Scripture using interlinear Bible word study, Hebrew and Greek word meanings, and personal reflection.
I’m taking the Bible apart, verse by verse, and looking at the original words behind them. It is my goal to consider their range of meaning and context, and then put them back together in my own words.
This isn’t about creating a “better translation.” It’s about slowing down enough to notice what I might have missed by reading the words too quickly.
The question I’m asking throughout this series is simple:
If I had never heard the English Bible before, and all I knew was what these Hebrew/Greek words are telling me, how would I say this?
Start With a Book
There are a lot of ways to study the Bible. This is mine: slow down, look at the words, ask questions, and see what happens when I let the text speak before I decide what I think it means.
I’m starting with Genesis and taking it word by word, verse by verse. Eventually, I’ll work my way through the rest of Scripture.
- Genesis
- Exodus… coming soon
