So, What is Blogging??
I’ve been blogging for about 6 months now, but I’ve only really been serious about it for about 2 months. I’m from a small town; I know what some people are thinking… what is blogging?! Why is she doing all this? What is the point?
Honestly, there are a lot of different answers to that question and it is different for everyone. Most of us start out for a very personal reason. Blogging is not about needing attention, becoming “insta-famous”, or about getting free stuff, even though that is a nice perk sometimes. It’s about putting yourself out there and being able to be honest with yourself. Blogging is about sharing the things you love with like-minded people, all around the world.
But Why?
Even if you aren’t asking what is blogging? You’re probably asking, but why? My blogging journey began because I wanted to be able to document my travels, mostly for myself, but also to share with others! Blogging is a great platform to express yourself and describe what you do and what you love. I realize that I am very fortunate to be able to travel and do as much as I do. I have been able to do a lot of things, already in life, that some people will never get to do. But let me be clear, I never want that to come across as bragging.
I simply think that it is important for me to share the things that I get to do and see with others! I am stunned at the amount of people who never go anywhere, ever! My goal is to inspire people to go out into this beautiful world that we live in and make the most of their lives! Also, I love talking about and recommending places to people, just as I love seeing and learning about where other people have gone and what they have done!
But What’s the Point?
Many people do not understand the business aspect of blogging, or even realize that there is one. I treat my blog like a self-owned business. I love it and I put a lot into it. You may or may not know this, but the truth is that many people are able to turn their blogs into extremely successful businesses; and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a goal of mine.
Bloggers can make money in several different ways. Affiliate marketing and sponsored collaborations are the two big ones. Affiliate marketing is when a blogger creates a link, shares it, and will make a commission if (and only if) someone buys the product through that link. Another way is through sponsored collaborations; this is when a brand or company pays, or compensates in some way, a blogger to create a blog post or social media post in order to help advertise for that company.
I have already worked with several brands that I love! And it is important to note that I would never work with a brand or give them good reviews if I didn’t truly believe in their product. With that said, as in any business, numbers matter. The more followers, likes, comments, etc. that a blogger has, the better he or she will look to businesses searching for someone to collaborate with. So, if you see me promoting myself, don’t assume that I’m just starving for attention. I’m promoting myself because I’ve worked my ass off to get to the point that I’m at in this new and growing business.
Support your Local Blogger
Hopefully this helped to put blogging in a better prospective for you. (Most) bloggers are not attention craving, self-centered, celebrity wannabes. Bloggers are bold, creative, social, free-spirited people simply trying to make a place for themselves in this crazy world. Most of us are our own managers, coordinators, models, photographers, writers, financial managers, marketing specialists, content creators, writers, etc. AND most of us still work a normal job. So next time you see one of us pop up in your feed, take the time to show a little support. Check out what we have to say, interact with us, and you might be surprised.
